Conor McGregor lost another $500,000 as his bet on the co-main event of UFC 314 went wrong on Saturday night.

Legendary two-weight world champion McGregor staked a massive half-a-million dollars on his long-time rival Michael Chandler to beat Paddy Pimblett in the penultimate fight of the night in Miami. He has long expressed an interest in the bout, with both men his potential opponents should he ever come back.

McGregor famously coached opposite Chandler on the 2023 season of The Ultimate Fighter, with both men taking a win each in the finals. But their planned UFC 303 fight last year was cancelled due to a broken toe on the Irishman’s behalf and has yet to be rescheduled.

Conor McGregor Paddy Pimblett Michael Chandler result

Conor McGregor returned to the betting world this weekend as he placed a monstrous $500,000 on Micheal Chandler to knock out Paddy Pimblett in the co-main event of UFC 314. He even claimed the result would be a “brutal KO” for the American in a bold prediction.

“The fight I’m interested in, Michael Chandler vs Paddy Pimblett,” McGregor said in his X video announcing the bet. “I’m gonna go with Michael Chandler to win and win by KO. Although Paddy has improved in his last few outings, I still fancy Chandler to do it.”

Unfortunately, it ended up going the exact opposite way as Pimblett brutalized and stopped Chandler in the third round. He overcame some early adversity to land a knee that split the American open in gruesome fashion before landing a TKO finish on top.

Paddy Pimblett and Michael Chandler both reacted to Conor McGregor fight interest

During the week, Conor McGregor declared his interest in the co-main event of UFC 314, nodding to the fact that both Pimblett and Chandler are prospective opponents for his return. He hasn’t fought since 2021, but both men remain on his list of potential fights should he ever come back to the octagon.

“Yeah I seen it, obviously, I got sent it by a good few people,” Pimblet said during fight week. “You know, I’d welcome that fight, that’s where the money’s at but I can’t look past Michael. I’ve got to fight Michael on Saturday night and get the win here, that’s all that matters.”

Chandler was also asked, telling the press: “I don’t know. I’m sure he’s watching. He watches and he’s very interested in coming back but can he put together a training camp, that’s the real question. We don’t know.

“All I know is you can see by my actions, fighting Charles Oliveira in November and now fighting five months later, Paddy Pimblett, putting my ranking on the line, going out to brave the unknown, I’m going to stay active.

“The first 26 months in the organization, I weighed in six times, fought five times. Fight of the night, fight of the year, debut of the year, knockout of the year. All I do is put on great fights and I do it for you guys and on Saturday night, we’re gonna do it again.

“I don’t really care what Conor tweets, if he comes back, we got to finish The Ultimate Fighter 31 and he’s gonna be impressed by my performance on Saturday night.”
