Conor McGregor has aspirations to leave the UFC to become a politician, but it might not be as easy as he thinks, according to Daniel Cormier.
The former UFC champion’s career in the octagon seems to be over. The Irishman was originally meant to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but McGregor pulled out of the fight after suffering from an injury just weeks prior to the bout.
McGregor has hinted about retiring from the UFC and has even teased fighting in the BKFC. However, he has made his intentions clear to move into politics.
McGregor wants to run for the Irish Presidency, but Daniel Cormier thinks he will fail for one major reason.

Daniel Cormier says Conor McGregor will fail in politics because nobody likes him
McGregor’s popularity may not be as strong as he thinks it is in his home country, according to Cormier.
The UFC legend doubts the people in Ireland even like McGregor anymore. On Good Guy/Bad Guy, he theorized that McGregor simply won’t have the support to become President in his home country.
Cormier said: “The Conor McGregor of 2015, 2016, and 2017, the one that went eight rounds with Floyd Mayweather, that Conor McGregor was in a rush. A rush to greatness.
“And if that’s gone, it’s over. That’s a wrap, man. But to be a politician? He wants to be a politician? I think people in Ireland don’t even like him. Everybody I speak to is like, ‘They can’t stand this dude.’
“But I guess he feels like he has enough support to go into politics.”
McGregor wants to fight while serving as President, becoming the only president to fight in the octagon while in office.
Michael Chandler still wants to fight McGregor despite their cancelled fight
Despite McGregor pulling out of his fight with Chandler and teasing retirement, the American fighter still wants to get his hands on the Irishman.
Chandler plans to call out McGregor after his fight with Paddy Pimblitt at UFC 314. Presumably, this is conditional on him beating his younger opponent, but “Iron Mike” seems determined to get his match with the former UFC Champion.
He still has two fights left on his contract, one of which you’d expect to be against Chandler. However, McGregor seems content in what he’s done so far and could walk away from the UFC for good.
The loss of a huge personality would be something Dana White will want to avoid, but if McGregor’s head is turned by politics then the UFC may not be the best place for him.
