Dustin Poirier was surprisingly quick to answer about which of his greatest rivals he would like to share a desert island with.
Poirier maintains bitter public feuds with Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, despite finishing them both in decisive fashion the last time they fought. Chandler has branded ‘the Diamond’ a sore winner for the way he’s reacted to their feud, while McGregor still feels their beef is unfinished.
Meanwhile, Poirier is about to hang up the gloves with one final fight, believed to be this summer in his native Louisiana. His opponent is as yet unknown, with rumors swirling around Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje for prospective trilogies.
Dustin Poirier picks Michael Chandler over Conor McGregor in comical game
During an appearance on the ESPN UFC 314 pre-fight show in Miami, Dustin Poirier was appearing alongside UFC legends Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen. There, he was asked during a segment with whom he would prefer to share a deserted island; Conor McGregor or Michael Chandler.
He is known to hate both men, but quickly replied “Chandler”. When Cormier poked and asked if the pair might be friends he said: “Nah, I just feel like he looks like a Bear Grylls type, somebody who’s gonna build a tent, he’s gonna fish and get us food. Conor’s just gonna talk the whole time.”
Sonnen and Cormier both seemed to think that was a fair assessment, laughing at the idea that Poirier could befriend either man at any stage. Daniel Cormier then joked that he would like to stay with his long-time rival Jon Jones so that he could kill and eat him.
Michael Chandler claims he and Dustin Poirier might end up friends
Despite how hostile Poirier remains in their lengthy feud, Michael Chandler continues to insist that the pair might one day become friends. He even joked that they might end up doing a podcast together once all is said and done in their careers.

“We are friends, he just hasn’t admitted it yet,” Chandler quipped during an interview with Helen Yee. “It’s really funny, there could be a documentary on how it started, how it’s going and how it ends between me an Poirier.
“I wish him nothing but the best if this is his last fight if it’s his next one. I’ll be there, I hope it is in New Orleans, I want to watch him lay the gloves down and pay my respects. Maybe then when we’re not competing we can do some charity work together, maybe we’ll do a reality show or podcast together!”
