The UFC’s welterweight champion had a special interest in the main event of UFC London having previously fought both men.
England’s Leon Edwards looked to put the memory of his defeat to Belal Muhammad behind him on March 22 at the O2 Arena.
His opponent, Sean Brady, had also suffered a loss to the current champion but he now had the opportunity to secure the biggest win of his career to date.
The American did just that in enemy territory as he dominated ‘Rocky’ and became the first man to finish the Brit.
Overall, the night wasn’t a great outing for the home fighters following several big losses and the retirement of Molly McCann.
Belal Muhammad repeatedly mocks Leon Edwards in a series of posts on social media
Since their rematch at UFC 304, there has been no love lost between Belal Muhammad and Leon Edwards even with both men going their separate ways.
‘Remember The Name’ has his own opponent to focus on with his first title defense coming at UFC 315 against Jack Della Maddalena but that didn’t stop him from giving his thoughts on Edwards vs Brady.
Throughout the fight, which saw Sean Brady dominate from top position before finding the finish, Muhammad posted a series of statements on X with many of them poking fun at ‘Rocky’.
The champion made specific reference to Edwards saying that the unusual time difference of their rematch last July impacted his performance on the night.
He also highlighted his win over Brady from UFC 280 which remains the only loss on the American’s pro record which he extended to 18-1 this past Saturday night.
Sean Brady needs to push for his rematch with Belal Muhammad
Whilst it doesn’t look like Leon Edwards is going to get his rematch with Belal Muhammad anytime soon, things could fall into place for Sean Brady if he really pushes for it.
Other than the champion’s next fight at UFC 315, the biggest hurdle in the way of Brady getting his shot is Shavkat Rakhmonov who remains waiting in the wings following an injury.
Rakhmonov’s win over Ian Machado Garry cemented his status as the number one contender but Brady might be able to challenge that if he can start to make some serious noise.
Otherwise, despite his huge win, the American isn’t likely to find himself in position for a title until shot until 2026.
