Jake Paul’s latest veiled shot at Canelo Alvarez was quickly fact-checked.

Jake Paul‘s return to the boxing ring will take place against a former champion and the son of an icon, as he prepares to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28th. This marks Paul’s first fight since defeating heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson in November.

Ahead of what could be the toughest test of Paul’s boxing career, he’s still upset with how a negotiated clash with Canelo Alvarez fell apart earlier this year. Paul and Alvarez were in the final stages of negotiating a massive fight this summer before Riyadh Season, and Turki Alalshikh signed Alvarez to a multi-fight deal.

Since the Alvarez vs. Paul fight fell apart, Paul has taken repeated shots at the Mexican superstar, including in the lead-up to his clash with one of Alvarez’s former foes.

Jake Paul ‘fact checked’ by X’s Community Notes feature after Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. claim

In a recent post to X, Paul issued one of his first statements after the fight’s announcement and took a veiled shot at Alvarez in the same breath.

“Five years ago, I stepped into the ring for my pro debut after 1 amateur fight, and every fight since has been a step towards becoming world champion,” Paul said.

“I just defeated the baddest man on the planet and broke multiple records, and now I’m going against a former world champion with 54 wins who Canelo could barely beat…”

Just hours after Paul’s original comments, X‘s ‘Community Notes’ feature countered his assertion.

“Who Canelo could barely beat” Canelo Alvarez dominated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. unanimously 120-108, meaning Chavez Jr. didn’t win a single round in the eyes of every judge,” the note read.

As of this writing, Alvarez nor Chavez have responded to Paul’s comments. Alvarez and Chavez went the distance earlier in their careers in 2017, with Alvarez getting the nod on all three judges’ scorecards.

UFC champion shared a surprising take on Jake Paul’s boxing career

Paul’s success in the boxing ring has accumulated his fair share of detractors. But former UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria isn’t one of them.

During a recent appearance on the Full Send Podcast, Topuria praised Paul for his marketability and disruption in boxing. It’s in stark contrast to the position of several other UFC fighters, despite Paul defeating legends like Anderson Silva during his career.

Paul has bounced back nicely since suffering his first boxing loss to Tommy Fury in 2023. He’s won five consecutive fights, including a decisive win over Tyson and a dominant victory over former UFC superstar Nate Diaz.

Paul defeating Chavez Jr. could go a long way in proving his detractors wrong. As for his comments on Alvarez, Paul remains irked by the fight talks abruptly falling short of the mark.
