Former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards picked UFC 314 fight week to break his silence after losing to Sean Brady.
Leon Edwards is in new territory after suffering his second consecutive UFC defeat to Sean Brady just weeks ago at UFC London. After losing the UFC welterweight title to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 last July, Edwards lost to Brady by guillotine submission to cement the first losing streak of his professional career.
The UK star Edwards has been relatively silent since UFC London, leaving his brother Fabian and his team to share their first remarks since the Brady fight. It’s an unfamiliar spot for Edwards after a 13-fight unbeaten streak solidified him as one of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world.
Edwards is now firmly out of the welterweight title mix as Muhammad prepares to face Jack Della Maddalena in his first title defense next month. But two wins could potentially be enough to get Edwards another title shot, against Muhammad or whoever is holding the belt at the time.

Edwards entered UFC London heavily motivated to get back to the belt after falling to Muhammad last July. But after his second consecutive defeat, many have questioned Edwards’s mindset during his losing skid and how he’s dealt with the latest setback.
Edwards isn’t one to shy away from a confident persona, win or lose, in and out of the Octagon. Despite his recent struggles, he remains one of the top welterweights in the world and a matchup nightmare for many contenders.
Fans have clamored for Edwards to speak on what went wrong at UFC London against Brady. While he hasn’t detailed what led to him tapping against Brady, Edwards needed just two words to showcase his headspace as he prepares for his fighting comeback.
In a recent Instagram post, Edwards broke his weeks-long silence after UFC London.
“Still HIM,” Edwards posted.
Before his back-to-back losses to Muhammad and Brady, Edwards’s welterweight title reign featured wins over Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman. Edwards became a UFC champion when he knocked out Usman with a head kick at UFC 278.
Leon Edwards’s longtime enemy encourages a long break from MMA after UFC London
Edwards has heard all sorts of criticism since his UFC London performance, including from a former foe. After watching Edwards’s latest defeat, Jorge Masvidal encouraged him to take a long break from competition, despite teasing a matchup for the latter’s planned UFC comeback.
Masvidal’s rise to UFC stardom began with a break to appear on a reality television show, which led to his incredible run in 2019. Masvidal finished Darren Till, Ben Askren, and Nate Diaz to solidify himself as one of the sport’s biggest names.
Some of Edwards’s other detractors aren’t as steady in their assessments. UFC analyst Din Thomas labeled Edwards as not a ‘true fighter’ after watching him get finished at UFC London.
Meanwhile, Brady has continued to troll Edwards in a series of post-fight social media jabs. Brady could potentially get the next welterweight title shot against the Muhammad vs. Maddalena winner.
As for Edwards, he’ll likely face another top name for his UFC comeback, whether it’s later this year or in 2026. But for now, Edwards’s unrelenting confidence shows how he’s handling his first career skid.
