The GFL is seriously struggling to get up and running, but fans are not surprised that their debut events have been canceled.
Last month, new MMA promotion, GFL, announced its inaugural events would take place on May 24 and 25, finally kicking off their season.
One event was scheduled to be headlined by Tony Ferguson vs Dillon Danis, which also included Paige VanZant’s first MMA fight since leaving the UFC.
The promotion’s debut events began falling apart last week when several fighters withdrew from their fights, with Fabricio Werdum withdrawing from his scheduled return due to a lack of motivation.

Fans not surprised by GFL canceling debut events
Despite their debut events being scheduled for the end of May, it was announced this Monday that the events have been postponed due to a lack of investment, and there are serious doubts about the future of the promotion as a whole.
“My main investor didn’t fulfill his April obligation, which ultimately led to the cancelations,” GFL founder Darren Owen told Uncrowned.
Owen continued by claiming the promotion is now looking at launching their debut events at the end of June, providing they can get investment.
Despite that, fans are not surprised that the launch has once again been delayed, and the promotion has been under the microscope ever since it was announced, especially due to the amount of money they were allegedly paying some of the fighters.
“Feel bad for all the fighters who left or passed on other opportunities to ‘sign’ with GFL. Very unfortunate. This needs to stop. Fighters don’t deserve this kind of treatment,” one fan reacted.
“They probably realized all the fighters they signed are too old and when in camp may get injured and understand they’re too old and just retire,” another fan said.
“Seemed doomed from the start after their ‘draft’ debacle. It is a shame because so many fighters are not going to make the money that they were contracted to,” a third fan commented.
Dillon Danis reacts to GFL postponing debut events again
Despite not having a long career in MMA, Danis is one of the most controversial figures in the sport, and he was scheduled to take on the regressing Ferguson in the main event of the May 25 event.
“Bro, I just wanna f—— fight. What the f—,” Danis said in a post on X.
However, the undefeated fighter remains confident that his fight against ‘El Cucuy’ will be rescheduled and will actually take place.
“Just got word, don’t believe everything you hear. My fight with Tony Ferguson is still on,” Danis claimed.
