Colby Covington attempted to steal the limelight once again on Saturday at UFC 314 following Paddy Pimblett’s impressive win over Michael Chandler.

Coming into UFC 314 in Miami, fans were highlighting Michael Chandler as undoubtedly Paddy Pimblett‘s toughest test to date, with him being a big step up from Bobby Green last July.

Despite that, ‘The Baddy’ showcased exactly why he is widely regarded as a potential big star in the promotion when he finished Chandler in the third round of their five-round co-main event.

Following the biggest win of his career thus far, Pimblett called out ‘cheeky’ Conor McGregor, after the former UFC double champion declared his interest in fighting the winner earlier this week.

Pimblett explains post-fight scuffle with Covington

However, immediately after his fight, the 30-year-old Brit was involved in a backstage scuffle with UFC welterweight Colby Covington.

The verbal altercation seemingly came as a complete surprise as Pimblett took part in post-fight interviews before being ran up on by the former interim champion.

Despite that, the two have previously shared words about one another online, and Pimblett explained why the run-in happened.

“Mr irrelevant, trying to stay relevant the f—— whopper. He just came over and started chatting s—, didn’t he because he saw there was a camera, came over and started saying, ‘Ah, you fight scrubs’, he said something about Chandler being 2-4 or something, isn’t he 2-4 in his last six?” Pimblett said during the post-fight press conference.

“He’s an absolute b–, lad, he’s nearly 40, he’s trying to stay relevant by jumping on me while there’s a camera there, well, not jumping on me, just talking s—.

“I saw him at Power Slap the other week and just walked past him staring at him, and he just looked at the floor like the little p—- boy he is. When there’s a camera there he tries to say something but he got terrored. We all absolutely terrorised him… Tried to keep shouting and got told to button his shirt up the little whool,” Pimblett continued.

Fortunately for Pimblett, UFC boss Dana White wasn’t too concerned with the backstage altercation as he provided his reaction to the scuffle.

Pimblett claims he would beat Ilia Topuria in the same way he beat Chandler

With the scouser now likely on the verge of fighting for the lightweight title, he is probably set for another huge-name opponent next.

Pimblett has continued to feud with Ilia Topuria and named him on his hit list, despite them embracing at UFC London recently.

And following his win over ‘Iron’ Mike, ‘The Baddy’ has claimed that he would finish ‘La Layenda’ in a similar way if they fought in the future.

“To be honest, I forgot about him, otherwise, I would’ve mentioned him in the cage. I literally forgot all about him, that’s how irrelevant he is. I’m ranked higher than he is at lightweight, so I’d love to welcome him to 155lbs.

“Apparently he’s sitting out and waiting for a title shot, but what I’ve just done to Chandler is half the blueprint to beating him. He’s even more of a midget than what Chandler is. I’ll do the exact same thing to Ilia that I did to Chandler,” Pimblett said.
