2025 has already been a big year for one of the most talked about teams in MMA but they’re just getting started.

The Fighting Nerds out of Brazil were one of the biggest success stories of 2024 but over the next few months, they will step into a whole new spotlight.

Mauricio Ruffy already kicked their year off in style with his knockout over King Green that likely leads the way for the best knockout to have taken place inside the Octagon since January.

Jean Silva is up next as he faces Bryce Mitchell in a highly tense affair at UFC 314 this Saturday having previously been set to share the card with Carlos Prates.

‘The Nightmare’ had his matchup with Geoff Neal cancelled but he only received an even bigger fight as a result with Prates now set to face Ian Machado Garry in the main event of UFC Kansas City.

Another Fighting Nerds athlete produces a highlight reel knockout with fans calling for Magno Dias to be signed

The Fighting Nerds team haven’t just achieved success inside the Octagon, they’ve won in dominant fashion with extra style points picked up along the way.

Another one of their fighters was recently in action at Future MMA 14 in Brazil on April 6 with Magno Dias kicking off the card against Alessandro Albuquerque.

Dias is 28-years-old with a record of 5-1 coming into this bout, having four submission wins under his belt with several gaps of inactivity in his career.

With a nickname like ‘The Violence’, it was surely only a matter of time before he produced his first knockout win and when it came, it was certainly one to remember.

Dias has competed across several weight classes but his striking looked to be incredibly sharp in this bantamweight contest at the Expocentro.

After relentlessly walking down his opponent in the second round, his pressure paid off as he landed a huge fast ball right hand that closed the show with one shot.

Fight fans responded to the highlight by calling for him to get a shot in the UFC and given how much momentum is behind this team right now, it doesn’t seem unlikely.

“Wow. Give em a fight on a Tuesday night in August,” said one user whilst another commented on the team in general by stating, “These nerds are really evil.”

“I’ll take anyone that actually fights. The UFC is in a boring phase.”

The claim that ‘UFC is in a boring phase’ has some weight behind it

This past weekend’s UFC Vegas 105 event was the fourth card in a row to not receive a fight of the night bonus.

There have still been some impressive performances scattered across the past month but between UFC 313 and UFC 314 on April 12, the action has certainly taken a dip.

Various factors could be to blame but at least with the Fighting Nerds set to compete in the coming events, fight fans know they’ll be in for something special.

The UFC has always prioritized the signing of fighters that put opponents away and give everything they have but that just hasn’t translated well inside the Octagon as of late.
