UFC Flyweight Jimmy Flick once left the Octagon on the highest note possible.

Former LFA Champion Jimmy Flick returns this weekend at UFC Kansas City, headlined by an intriguing welterweight battle between Ian Machado Garry and Brazilian phenom Carlos Prates.

Flick is set to meet ‘The Ultimate Fighter 24’ alumni Matt Schnell in what will be his sixth appearance under the UFC banner.

Flick signed to the premier promotion in 2020, winning his contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in MMA fight #20. Flick made his debut later that year against Cody Durden, thinking after it he’d never fight again.

Jimmy Flick won UFC debut by flying triangle

The crowdless UFC Apex was where Jimmy Flick would capture the greatest highlight of his career.

Less than three minutes into his fight at UFC Vegas 17, Flick would close the distance and landed a headkick which he then used to gain leverage with his right hand gripping Durden’s shoulder. Flick jumped guard in mid-air, attempting a flying triangle submission as Durden toppled him on the ground.

Flick readjusted the triangle once he was on the ground with Durden struggling to find a way out.

20 seconds into the choke, Durden was ultimately forced to tap.

Flick pocketed a $50K performance bonus for his flying triangle submission, which surprisingly wasn’t included in the UFC’s Top 10 submissions of 2019.

Jimmy Flick retired at 1-0 before coming back years later

In April 2021, a few months removed from his incredible debut win against Durden, Jimmy Flick announced his MMA retirement at the age of 30.

For Flick, there was a few reasons why he left the sport when he did. He didn’t want to fight for his father’s love anymore and as a father himself, Flick wanted to be there for his children.

“Long story short, I’ve been a family man my whole life, I’ve been working a full-time job and chasing this career,” Flick told UFC.com.

“I had a wife of 11 years and we split up and that was one of the reasons I gave up fighting.

“I wanted to be there for my her more and for my kids more because I was gone throughout our whole relationship.”

Like most MMA retirements, Flick’s didn’t stick as the flyweight returned to the UFC in Jan. 2023.

Currently 2-3 in the UFC and having lost his last fight, Jimmy Flick could be fighting for his job at UFC Kansas City on Saturday when he meets Matt ‘Danger’ Schnell.

For Schnell, this is his actual UFC retirement fight after laying down the gloves last year off a loss to common opponent Cody Durden.
