Conor McGregor’s UFC career seems to have come to an end, although it is not too surprising.
The former UFC Champion was supposed to face off with Michael Chandler at UFC 303. However, Conor McGregor pulled out of the Chandler fight, suffering an injury that saw the blockbuster bout being called off.
McGregor’s fight has yet to be rearranged, while Chael Sonnen doesn’t believe McGregor’s reason for pulling out of the event.
With McGregor’s presidential ambitions, it seems likely that his fighting career is over for good and fans won’t get to see him in the octagon again.

There is always drama and mystery surrounding the Irishman, although one UFC legend is not surprised at all by his
Matt Brown isn’t surprised to see Conor McGregor retiring from the UFC
While many may be shocked to see McGregor potentially hanging up his gloves, UFC legend Matt Brown isn’t surprised in the slightest.
He reminded fans that McGregor told people what he was going to do earlier in his career, signalling his intentions to make his money and get out of the sport.
Brown spoke on Fighter vs. Writer, saying:
“He told us like 10 years ago what he was going to do. Do you remember him talking about it? ‘I’m going to come in, I’m going to take over, I’m going to make money and then I’m going to get the f— out.’
“He said something along the lines of this game is brutal, you don’t want to be in it too long. He told us however many 8 or 10 years ago. He literally told us and he has done it.
“This is not surprising at all. He loves being in the news. He loves staying relevant and putting his two cents into everything. He’s kept his voice out there and we’ve all paid attention and we’re still talking about it.
“He’s done a good job of that. A good job of playing the media. I told you before, he’s done. I think he’s just confirming what we already knew.”
While his return was meant to be at UFC 303, McGregor hasn’t fought in the Octagon since back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier in 2021.
A move into politics may not signal the end of McGregor’s fighting career
Despite pulling out of this fight and hinting at a move to politics, McGregor still has aspirations to fight in the UFC.
The former UFC Champion says he wants to run to become President of Ireland, with McGregor meeting Donald Trump as he ramped up his political activity.
He admitted that he wants to be President while fighting in the Octagon, something no other fighter has ever done.
“And now entering the octagon: The Notorious, the President of Ireland, Conor McGregor! Of course. Are you crazy?
“That’s part of why I want to do it. “To be announced as the President of Ireland, having a fight.”
The next Irish Presidential election is in November 2025, so McGregor doesn’t have long to drum up support for his campaign.
