UFC welterweight Daniel Frunza has insisted that he will be back and better than ever after being sent to hospital in his debut last night.

The rising star was dropped multiple times and had his face mangled by Rhys McKee last night in a gruesome one-round fight at UFC Vegas 105. Dana White even shared photos showing just how gruesome his injuries were as the Irishman finally registered a win in his fifth UFC effort.

McKee’s brutalizing showing even earned him a $50,000 performance bonus in what was likely to be his final shot at the octagon. His initial run in the promotion began with a short-notice bout against Khamzat Chimaev and a showdow with veteran Alex Morono, but he is now back as a Cage Warriors champion.

“I feel good,” he wrote alongside an image showing his stitched up eye and upper lip. “I [am a] bit heart broken for the result. But I’ll be back more dangerous than ever.” He also tagged the UFC and Dana White in his post.

Frunza earned a spot on the UFC welterweight roster after an impressive showing on Dana White’s Contender Series in September. Leading up to his UFC debut, Frunza went on a destructive run in multiple promotions, earning five consecutive stoppage wins.

Rhys McKee claims Daniel Frunza’s power comment led to brutal showing

Heading into Saturday’s clash, there were massive question marks surrounding McKee’s UFC credentials after suffering four octagon defeats. He even noted that Frunza was unsure of his punching power, which made him all the more keen to throw bombs in the Apex.

“I’m going to be honest, Daniel’s a very nice guy,” McKee told Michael Bisping in his post-fight interview. “I heard in an interview he said I don’t hit that hard and I said ‘listen, that will be his demise’. I hit hella hard.

“These hands genuinely feel like there’s stones in them and anybody that takes them won’t want to take them. I knocked him down four times and I think there’s a nice bonus wrote with that, let’s go.”
