Joe Pyfer isn’t the only fighter who had weight cut complications at UFC Mexico City.
UFC Mexico City took place on Saturday featuring a 12-fight card, one Joe Pyfer wasn’t apart of, withdrawing the day of due to food poisoning during his rehydration process.
Another fighter, Ronaldo Rodriguez, had his own number of issues from over the weekend, ‘Lazy Boy’ missing weight for his fight against Kevin Borjas, one pound over the 126lb limit.
The show went on with Rodriguez forfeiting 20% of his purse. Favored to win, Rodriguez walked out with boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez before he lost by unanimous decision after surviving a knockdown in round 1.
It snapped a seven-fight win streak for Rodriguez, marking his first defeat in the UFC.

Ronaldo Rodriguez hospitalized with weight cut ‘complications’
Rodriguez was all smiles in his post-fight response, not knowing that he’d have to be hospitalized soon after.
Posting an update from the hospital, Rodriguez cites issues from his weight cut down to flyweight.
The popular Mexican fighter let his 2 million fans know he was going to be A-OK.
“Thank you very much Red Cross for such an excellent service,” Rodriguez wrote in Spanish on Monday. “I really appreciate it.”
“Had some complications with my weight cut but we doing good my wife @ninaamedina is taking care of me.”
What’s next after UFC Mexico?
After an amazing show at the Sphere last September, Ronaldo Rodriguez was touted to be the next big thing in Mexican MMA, gaining 1.5M followers after his second UFC fight.
At 25 years old, the loss to Borjas is definitely a bump in the road but one ‘Lazy Boy’ can bounce back from.
2-1 in the UFC with previous wins over Ode Osbourne and Denys Bondar, it’d make sense for Rodriguez to get another fight lined up in Mexico after the pop he received in Mexico City.
UFC 320 AKA the next Noche UFC is on the calendar for Sep. 13 in Guadalajara. Time will tell if we’ll see Ronaldo Rodriguez return then.
